Didn't get to the place I wanted to go this weekend. Found a few but at least I didn't get skunked!

I was hoping to get to a Horse Track, Balldiamond that I had researched this last weekend but got sidetracked. A buddy of mine wanted to try a spot locally. We didn't find much on Saturday. I found a few more on Sunday on the way down to the spot previously mentioned but on the way down the wind started to pick up and I decided to try the Horse Track and Balldiamond next weekend. It was only about 40 Degree's out and the wind was about 15-20 MPH so I didn't feel like freezing out in the middle of a farm field so I hope to get to this spot next weekend. I did find a few things locally and I got permission for a yard so I might try it sometime before the ground freezes up. I was mainly after a Vacant Lot on Sunday but found out that the owner is in prison and one of the town's board members didn't know if it was still owned by this person or if it was sold for back taxes to someone else, so I decided to stay off of the lot. Too bad since there is huge tree's, the original sidewalks that went up to the house and around the house, and the ground wasn't even dug up so I know there is some real nice keepers in that yard. Now for what few finds I did get. I found 4 Silver which consisted of 1 Mercury Dime dated 1936 and 3 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1948,1954-s (something hit this one long ago since the gouge is the same color as the coin and not shiny like a new gouge would be), and 1964-d. I also found 1 Jefferson Nickel dated 1946. I found another 10 Wheats also dated 1917,1939-d (with a hole in it),(2)1944-d,(2)1945-d,1946-d,1951-d,1955-d, and 1956-d. I also found a really nice Wing's Pin. On the back it says Balfour Sterling and it has some weight to it. This was found in a School Yard so I take it as a item you could purchase when buying a Class Ring. I thought it was going to be either junk or new Clad since where I found it was dug up and was clay. This was the highlight of this weekend. I also found a letter P with a lightning bolt on it that was for a jacket's zipper and a cheaply made Pendant that has Doulee inscribed on it. I just hope the weather for next weekend improves and has less wind so I can make a few more nice finds before I call it quits for the year. The ground is starting to get stiff, James. I've been out a couple of times and noted it's getting harder to cut the plugs and dig the dirt. But you continue to excel. Good job doing the research and searching the sites. You're good at planning your work and working your plan.

The time is short. Hopefully, we'll get some Indian summer in November. HH to you.

I have a few spots that I would like to check out before the frost sets in and it would be a shame to not get a chance to check these sites out. There is still 1 spot that isn't really that far from you that I know yeilds Silver and other finds in it yet and maybe if there is enough time this year, I will take you to it. There is a few that still detect in the winter but they have to use Pic Axes just to penetrate the ground. I have tried digging before when it is this frozen and it just isn't my cup of tea. I'd rather do research and wait till spring to get out again instead of freezing my butt off and taking a chance of hitting the item with a Pic Axe. One guy hit a Large Cent dead on and almost put the Axe Point thru the center of the coin.

I know that this spot will yield Seated and Barber if it has never been detected before and if I am right, it will be like digging Clad. It was used a lot back in the 1880's and it had other things going on also. Makes one drool a bit like the Horse Track you are trying to locate. I am glad that the back of the pin itself is still intact. It was fully open when I found it and the pin itself was bent badly in all different directions. I was lucky to get it back to as close as normal as possible without it breaking on me. This find makes a nice addition to my Curio Cabinet of finds and was worth the effort even though the weather is a bit on the cool side. Hope you get out and have some Good Luck and HH and hope to see some post's of your finds.

Great weekend in my book. The odds and ends stuff really rounds out the silver/wheats type stuff. Those wings are very cool.

Last winter was mild and the ground never really froze up here in Cleveland. Hope we have another winter like it. Typically we can hunt here until mid Dec.

I really like the Wings myself. In fact, I am glad it turned out to be Sterling Wings instead of a Silver Roosevelt Dime. Just puts more class into my display case with all the other great treasures I have uncovered with my Explorer XS. I hope for the same here with a nice mild winter and I just hope the ground doesn't freeze up on us until mid Nov. or beginning of Dec. Good Luck to you and HH.

have you ever detected around an old house 3'-4' out from the foundation? It is almost impossible to do with all the old rusty nails and such from countless times of shingling jobs done to the roof. I know since I work Construction. It is extremely hard to penetrate the ground even in Iron Mask -16, Ferrous Tones. Plus, you have to take in the amount of Snow Cover around the house. Just not my cup of tea! I'd still rather wait it out until spring and go out and get permission for some new site's I research during the winter. Just pays off better than freezing one's butt off and chipping thru Rock Hard Dirt. But, you do have a point and if it works for you, that is great. At least there will be a few finds being posted while I sit back and wait for Spring to arrive. Good Luck and HH.
