Difference between black & silver plugs

Could someone tell me the difference between the older silver headphone & coil plugs and the newer black one.

Maybe the black one is more resistant to corrosion in saltwater. Aside from that possibility I don't have a clue.

Maybe they think they look Cooler & the grease they apply sticks better ? . . . . .

Early silver and new silver have different TPI.
New silver and new Black have same TPI but the black ones can have slightly different thread angle due to the Black coating which can make them tight.
