digatol readings.

I have the Explorer XS and I was wondering if anyone has gotten any coins that read higher than 28? If not then what will 29 to 32 represent if they are not coins? I have air tested silver coins and 28 digatol seems to be the highest reading I get for coins on my machine. Thanks for any help on this question. HH.

00-29 is a quarter most of the time on my expII. Ground conditions will make a differance.

00-29 for clad quarters here too. Sometimes it will ring a 30-31 but usually jump back to a 29.

I get 0 29 for quarters and sometimes 0 28 briefly. Quarters are the only thing that seem to give consistent digital readings.

Of course when they are deeper the readings jump around a lot. I noticed that for quarters on each sweep over the target the numbers change as if they are poping off. True it is sometimes the wrong number but it changes each time. Other targets seem to be misread and the numbers stay they same but not quarters. When I get targets that act like this I dig.

I have also noted that the more I optimize for depth the more trouble the detector has with identifying the targets. It also makes separating the coin from the trash around it harder since the detector sees more of the trash on the side and below. I dummy it down by turning sensitivity down a lot to help separate the trash out.

The digital readings are based on conductivity. What is often overlooked conductivity/size. Size is a consideration in the conductive reading so it is actually conductivity/size which is stated in the Owner's Manual of for the EX2. Also, there is a calibration involved in the digital readings. As the detector ages the calibration of reading will change slightly due to the electronic and coil. That is one reason why there are difference from one machine to another. However, when I used the XS the higher reading would be large pieces of aluminum such as a smashed aluminum can. That was when I saw a reading at the higher end of the scale. A silver half would read 29 for conductivity an at times 30.

Re: Cody.

Thanks Cody for the information. I have used the digatol screen quite a bit, but I find the smart screen to be more informative.

Thanks for your comments also. Like I told cody, I am using the smart screen most of the time now. Like my buddy Lee always tells me,"if it beeps dig it". HH.
