Digging along the woodland paths.

Well-known member
Hit the woods about 7:15 this morning and within the first 100 feet or so swinging along a path, I dug my first good target, an 1895 IH with full Liberty. It read 65 and was less the 1" deep. My next target was a 1977 Memorial cent at 4." Go figure! Un-fortunately, that was it for good coin targets and in fact, not many targets over all this morning. Did, though, run into the 3 Merry Widows, Agnes, Mabel and Beckie, again, twice, and did manage to come across a Hawkeye cap gun that except for having rust spots is in decent shape. The one side of the grip that swings open for inserting a roll of caps still swings open. The item with the rag attached says Garrity and is probably a small flash light. F 75 LTD in BP mode, sen 85, 4 disc, 4h tones and g b 63-66 with 11" coil. HH jim tn

See you found more MW Wrappers....

Nice haul Jim. Those "3 merry widows" seem to pop up alot.

I've got a coffee can full of them. It is evident those woods were used for more then walking and bird watching. HH jim tn

You sure cant tell from the pictures you post of the overgrown hillsides, but the evidence you dig up there is astounding! That was one popular place in days gone by. I am not sure if people "kick it old school" outdoors as much now adays as they did back then? Probably not, too many bugs, and of course weirdos or cops with flashlights. Back then, I'm sure it was considered very bad form to disturb people engaged in such nocturnal endeavors, none but the village idiot would be foolish enough to sneak up on you and light a kerosene lantern with flint and tinder, before you could pull up your pants and clear your Colt Dragoon and yell, "Halt! who goes there"?

Mud, that is good! However, I and a couple others can attest that "nocturnal endeavors" still take place there. And, probably certain activities are not all nocturnal, either. HH jim tn

one can never know to a certainty, but a few "presidents" may have been conceived
in those woods, even with the number of "merry widows" showin' up!..just sayin'
