digital numbers on the various U.S. gold coins?

Can some folks chime in on what FE/CO numbers various gold coins will hit at on an Explorer? I realize ground conditions, orientation, depth, etc. can change them, but a general idea of where the various coins hit would be appreciated. I sure don't want to miss one of those, if I ever managed to swing the coil over one, and so I plan on digging the numbers they generally hit at, from now on.

And along those lines, who here has ever found one while detecting?

A Morgan silver dollar and a gold coin are the two "most wanted" finds on my list right now...

Good question Steve. I would like to know myself as I don't have any gold coins to get the numbers myself. I have gotten three silver dollars since I have been detecting, but that elusive gold coin still avoids me. HH.

I have not yet found a gold coin, but someday I will.
I hunt in the Smartfind mode, so I can't give you the exact digits Steve that my 2 Morgan dollars hit. But if this helps, and perhaps you can convert this to digits, with silver, I notice that the cursor is only half displayed in the Smartfind screen. Not every time, but most of the time. The Morgan, as I recall, did not hit quite as high as say a merc dime, perhaps just a bit below the merc dime.

I am just now beginning to call clad coins from the sound, but when I see only half of my cursor, it stops me dead in my tracks. I hope that helps. Chris

Along with my question on gold coins, I also wonder about the silver dollars. It seems that 00-26 is what the info I have seen suggests that a silver dollar will ring up as. I find that a bit strange, as my two halves hit 00-28 to 00-30. I'm surprised the silver dollars would read LOWER, but I guess the "size" portion of the ID algorithms begins to "penalize" the numbers a bit on silver coins (despite the high conductivity), due to the bigger size of the silver dollar (getting up there into "junk target" size). Grover, you saying that the silver dollar hit lower on the screen than a merc dime would support this -- but still, 26 on the conductivity seems low. Anyone else find a silver dollar, and remember what the digital numbers were?

Try these.... http://www.findmall.com/read.php?10,922673 All those digits are fairly accurate but do change a bit based on depth, settings and even machine. Those numbers are CORRECT for silver dollars in the ground.

Yes sgoss, the Morgan did hit lower than a merc dime. The list of digits that dew was kind enough to post provides the same information. Lower than a merc dime. Chris
