Greetings,
I got out to the park today and hit on a 07-26. I used to pass that reading up thinking it was Zinc pennies. After learning that 07-25/26 could be a Ring or IH. I found a few Zincs and the occasional pieces of trash. About the 8th try at digging 07-26 out popped a 925 sterling Ring. :surprised:. After learning to dig 07-25/26s I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the help stoopstroop. Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage. (EX-II) :minelab:

posted on the Explorer classroom forum, it looks like the safest bet is to dig "all" targets.:goodnight: 07-24 for example has religiously been screw caps for me. But looking at posts there I could be passing up gold. Is their any safe target signals that can be overlooked  Happy Hunting Grounds,

Civil War bullets will come up in that range as well. The dog tags I dug today were coming up 07-23. That is a common ranges for copper coins, relics, and other items. Not for gold though. Gold is generally occupying the same signal range as most of your trash...from foil to aluminum and everything in between, on up into the nickel range. So your assessment that "digging everything is best" is right-on. The BEST stuff goes to those that do. With experience you can learn to pass up some things...not so much from the numbers but from the sound. But you will never be SURE unless you dig it. I take a combination of factors to let me decide to dig or not.

1) Does it SOUND good?

2) Does it LOOK good?

3) How DEEP is it? (Although that one can get you!)

4) How many signals am I getting? If many, I will be selective. If slim pickings, I may dig more.

Until you get a good number of hours of experience on your machine, you should dig most of it.

Thanks mike,
I have been detecting for over a year now. It is still a ongoing adventure to learn good targets vice trash. It seems that a good target is about a 50/50 between trash and keepers. I found a Mans Masonic 14k Gold heavy band hitting 08-14/16, my 10kt Wedding band air tests at 09-08. Five Mont's ago I passed those readings up too. The Masonic ring had a different tone that made me curious. Thanks again Mike. Happy Hunting Grounds,

I beach hunt all summer and relic/coin hunt in the fall and winter. At the beach I have found gold rings of every size and weight and they truly do run the entire gamut. I use the Excal on the beach and rely on it's unique tone system to decide what to dig and the only things I DON'T normally want to dig the most...bottlecaps and foil trash...are pretty readily identifiable with the Excal.

On land it's a lot harder, especially at trashy sites. And I just can't dig THAT much. Normally it's a lot less likely to find a nice gold ring at a land site than the beach, so I am more selective. At the beach it pays to notch out nothing. My best find this past summer was a $4000+ diamond ring. I found it with my Excal but it comes it at 14-02 on the Explorer. I would hate to have passed that up. :)

Nice find Mike.
I also dig all 12-17 01/02s. most of it has been foil. no real finds on land in that range. Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage

Yeah, that's what my wife kept saying when I was brining home all of these nice men's diamond rings and the only ladies rings had small diamonds or other stones or just bands. She waited a long time for this one.
