disappointing winner

Got out a few days ago and dug some more field articles. I just dig and throw everything in my pouch until i get home.... well except the exciting stuff that i have to look at right away. Ill just say this is another reason to keep your trash.... and everything isnt as it appears. Once i got home i started cleaning what i though was junk. I had a small piece of copper about 3/8 in size. rubbed the inside..... why i dont know i guess it just look different. Thats when i saw 18K. Turned out to be a ring to my surprise. The sad part was it appears to be brass stamped 18K. The winner part is.... i found it where most of the coins were in the mid-1800's at a home that was tore down well before 1900. One of our club hunters with a lot of years under his belt as a Civil War era buff... said he had found lots of those while searching in VA at Civil War sites. I guess that was good news since nothing i found at the site was before 1900.

that reminds me of those two junk rings i found when i hunted with you, Dew one of them was marked 14K

I saw one of those dug at a Virginia Yankee winter camp. Brass but marked 18k or 14k, not sure.

You mean that one at the old church turned out to be plated? That was an OLD church who knows how old that ring was. At least im pretty certain this one has history. This old home was dead smack in the middle of an acre field.... and ive pulled nothing modern from the place. Id love to have had some of the glassware, pottery and crocks that are in pieces around it. I like it better when they are at least marked GP. I also dug 2 Large cents, a 2 center, and 3 IHs that day that dated from 1859 to 67. The LCs and 2 cent had unreadable dates of course. Thats 5 LC this year and not a one was worth brushing the dirt off them. But im not going to complain, its nice digging some history instead of getting looks in the Parks and digging clad. Had one guys stop who though i was digging meteors..... of course i told him i was but hadnt found any yet.
