discrimination ambiguity

I've learned more in the past week about pi electronics and circuitry and plan to get better at it. Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge.
As I have researched, there sems to be conflicting views on pi discrimination. Some posts say it doesn't exist, but then in another post it refers to it as though it does. Then there's reverse discrimination. There are even ads from "reputable" companies claiming their machine will indeed discriminate.
Would someone be willing to give a synopsis of pi discrimination, what's real and what's hype? What machine has some level of disc and what techniques have to be mastered to utilize disc?
Thanks in adavnce.
