Hello Fellow Detectorist; If you are like myself we all like to metal detect in our spare time.It is very relaxing and we all have fun doing this hobby or we woul not be doing it.We like the thrill of that new find we have just found and the excitement that come with it.But as you all know this hobby is not cheap,we pay good money for the detector and eqipment it takes to retreive the treasure we have just found. And with everything in the world we live in things are getting to be more expensive like college for the kids, gas to go to work, food to live, doctor apoitments. And then there we are with are metal detectors that we have spent are hard earn money on and hoping they will work without having any problems. It is like when you go to buy a new car you try and get the best price that you can because you know soon as you drive it off the lot it will depreceate 10 percent
and even more sometimes.I have noticed over a period of a couple of months some people like myself have been putting on the metal detector for sale forum safari's..They
had been trying to sell for 700.00 shipped for a used one, then go down hill from there just because they are used and I know we try and take care of our detectors and not
abuse them and are trying to get a fair price for them and it is like the detector is a peice of junk why do you supose that is.Don't get me wrong they are fine detectors like all the rest out there, but when we are trying to get market value price don't beat up on your fellow detectorist we would just like to make something on the detector because we
have spent good money this detector just like you have spent on your detector.Anoter way to look at this is to look at these manufactures that are making more detectors
and telling us we want 1500.00 dollars for are detectors, now what do think they would tell you if you said I will offer you this price for that detector probally I cant do that I am
not making any money,so should that not be for us to.Folks all that I am saying is that these dealers and manufacters are asking way to much for these detectors and they
are ruing the hobby for other folks to get into this hobby for the same reason we got into it for and that is to have fun with our family and freinds.Come on how much deeper
do you want to go with a detector.if you want to go much deeper go out and gat some dynamite blow up a big hole and clime down in maybe you will find that deep target
you have beenlooking for all these years and then you might even be able to say hi that china man.just have fun and lets all treat each other the way we would like to be traeted...

Hello everyone,In my earlier add what I was really asking was. When people like my self had put our minelab safari's on the detector forum for sale they started out selling
for 700.00 and now it seem's to me that this detector is droping in price like a hot potatoe for a used safari.I have been told these detectors are good, and now it looks like
a person can't even over 500.00 for them.I have one that looks like brand new and I am asking 625.00 without any pics.on the for sale forum.Anyone care to explain what
might be happeing after all there supose to be a real good detector..

A large part of the problem is the economy, times are really tough in many parts of the country. Another problem is even though the Safari is an excellent detector in its own right, it is not as popular as either the Explorer and Etrac listed above it. Late last year Minelab had to drop the price of the Safari a $100 for several months because of sagging sales. As a result with a dealer discount I was able to get a new Safari for under $800 which has turned out to be a great deal when figuring in how good the Safari really is even without all the bells and whistles that the Explorer and Etrac have.

Moose - It's like when you're buying a new car. The thing depreciates a good 20-30% the second you drive it off the lot. Now look at the Etrac, it sells for $1400-$1500 yet I picked up one for $900 about 6 months ago so $600 for a used Safari seems about right to me.

The Safari can hold it's ground against an Etrac or Explorer in performance minus the bells and whistles but because it's not the 'top of the line' detector and not as popular, it's going to have a lower resale value.
