I was wondering if anyone knew if you sent in an explorer XS if minelab would put the 1/4 inch jack into the machine so I didn't have to use the 1/4 inch jack adaptor. Hope someone out there knows this. HH

Might want to talk to Minelab U.S.A....Remember the Sunray stand is easy to put on with two way tape or glue supplied...best part it acts as a stand and keeps unit off ground..Also remember for about 2 bucks Radio Shack has an adapter to plug in so you can use your 1/4 inch headphones if the stand is not to your liking..

Dan, I have the sunray stand and my problem is the 1/8 inch jack on the machine itself. I plug in the 1/8 inch adaptor cord into it and sometimes you have to wiggle it to get the headphones to work. They are intermitent sometimes. I thought if I could just have the 1/4 inch adaptor put in the machine instead of using the 1/8 inch adaptor that would solve my problem. I hope this makes sense the way I am explaining it. HH

You have a faulty stand or perhaps a 1/4 jack headphone jack that doesn't go in far enough to make contact. Yep all headphones sometimes differ a hair.
Seems to me the adapter is your answer. Do call Minelab U.S.A. and see what they say. New explorer 11 is a one piece unit with the 1/4 jack...only they could answer your question. One wonders if your 1/4 jack headphones may be faulty also..Good luck, myself would just buy the converting jack..save some bucks and above all down time if they will which I doubt myself...

I replaced my 1/8 with a 1/4 jack dongle that hangs from the back of the unit within a couple of months of getting my XS. I've seen others put a 1/4 jack in the main housing. I don't know if minelab would do that for you, but it isn't so difficult it you are handy with a soldering iron. Agree that the 1/8 jack on the XS is way too delicate.

I was told by another member that Minelab would actually do that for free for the origial owner if you ship it to them. E-mail or call them and find out for sure.

Should be easy to change for a learned individual. Remember if you unit is under warranty will perhaps void it..Still I wonder buy converter for a few bucks, plug it in and you are good to go..Still like the idea of the stand also..

That you probably own one of the first Explorer XS machines. When they first came out, there were a few bugs......ie: Hairline cracks, headphone Jack !!, Arm Cuffs and a software vendor change. I sent mine into MineLab and it was updated. They take your electronics from your old machine and give you a new housing, Arm Cuff and updated software and display. They also fix the 1/8" headpone problem. I do not know if they will put the 1/4" headphone jack in it but the Sun Ray Stand is a good thing. Anyway, I was very happy with MineLabs fix. For your information and again Thank You "MineLab".

on your Explorer XS may already have a short in it. If so, the Sun Ray Adaptor will not correct it. If that is the case, you will have to get the jack fixed on the Explorer in order for the Sun Ray Stand adaptor to work properly. One way to check it is to plug your 1/8" headphones that came with the XS directly into the 1/8" jack on the XS and wriggle the connector and see if it is intermittent.

Thanks Ray, I will check that out and you are probably right. I figured that it is probably the 1/8 inch jack in the machine. My husband tested your adaptor and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Thanks for your Reply. HH
