Does anyone Rember how to make a Ring out of a coin

My Grandmother used quarters. She tapped all around the edges with a heavy table spoon until she got the width she wanted. She then drilled out the center and shaped with a file.(all silver quarter)

I used to make coin rings out of jeff. nickels. They were small, so only a child could wear them, but the date stays visible on the inside. People would ask me for certain years, and I'd make them on my spare time at work... I just used a small hammer and the anvil top of a bench vice. Hammer the edges all the way around evenly a little at a time until it is mushroomed out to the width of an average wedding band.
Drill out the center and use a rattail file to finish the inside, being careful to leave the date and lettering intact. I usually have to sand and polish the hammer marks off the outside.

Something to try with your spare time... the more you do, the better you get at it. Take care and HH, Mike.

I made one out of a silver quarter when I was a kid. The link shows pretty much how I did it except the inside of the spoon rather than the outside was used to hammer with. That gave the ring a more rounded surface.

You can also go to e-bay and buy one for about $35.00
