Does it really matter what factory program I start with.......

Dan(NM)

If I'm going to enter in my own custom settings? The only thing I could see that would matter is the frequency at which the program operates in. I have one coming next week so I know absolutely nothing about this machine :)

I think you have to create custom programs from one of the factory programs. Out here in the Rockies with moderate to high mineralization the fast, deep and hot programs worked best for me along with the gold program.

Do you really think that you, a new Deus owner, can conjure up a program better than those created by expert detector users?
Good luck with that.

Dan, I don't think it really matters which program you start with, but it might be easier to start with one that already has settings close to what you want to try. Less things to change that way. Good luck with your new Deus, it's a very special instrument...

Forgot to mention that you may want to pick up Andy Sabisch's Deus Handbook. It's a great resource for all things Deus...

Thank you for the insight, Andy's book is coming with the machine.

. Thank you Jeff!

I think what you are asking is if all the factory programs are based on the same filtering. Andy's book does cover this but just to give you a heads up Andy states all programs use the same filtering base except No 6 (Deep) which is based on an earlier filter.

Thank you John, that's exactly what I wanted to know, just didn't word it as plain as I should have.

Thank you for your input.

Start with a factory program, stick with it, learn it and make your adjustments as you progress.

Get andy's book as someone mentioned it will help you with setting up your own custom program.

Get Andy's book and read it from cover to cover.........at least three times! When you get the Deus, select a pre-set program, for instance, 'Basic' and stick with it until you have around 100 hours on the Deus. Don't be trying to make you a custom program until you understand the Deus! The pre-set programs actually work quite well. Watch all the videos on YouTube on the Deus and visit as many forums and Facebook groups. You need to know what the Deus is doing for each setting and how one setting can effect another setting and what frequency you want to use, and why, for your type of hunting. After you get familiar with all settings and how they will affect each other, then you can begin tweaking, but even then be careful as one setting can have an adverse effect on another setting and cause the Deus to loose depth or miss goodies. Take it slow but put lots of time in the field with this wonderful machine.

Do everything James/Texas said...in the order he said it:detecting:

G,

I'm a new user of the Deus. Are you saying I shouldn't have adjusted my program settings to the conditions of the sites I've hunted? Or adjusted the audio and tones to my hearing?

I found the Deus manual explains the settings quite well. Andy's revised book is helpful too. As with any new detector, there is a period of becoming familiar with how IT responds to a variety of targets in different situations. How adjustment to the settings impact the response. One must find targets, either in a test garden, or better, in the field, and try adjusting setttings and see how the detector responds, better or worse. This is how we learn to control the equipment we are using rather than blindly walking around using a program somebody on the internet recommended for their site that most likely is not the same site I'm hunting.

I suggest Dan get out there and experiment with the settings, learn how they impact his results. Will the settings he comes up with be the same as those provided by the factory? Only Dan can tell us.

I think the factory settings on my detectors are great places to start, but remember, they are places to start.

Just a thought,

Rich

You are right. The factory programs are starting points, but starting points inspired by expert input.
I'm no expert, far from it, and there are changes I have made for my own personal use but I started
with a factory program and that is what I was suggesting.
