Does reversing a coil change it

Read where some people reverse the way they mount a heavier coil to help balance the weight and feel. Then seen where some said to not do it cause it effects the way it detects. I don't see how it matters so can someone shed some light on this.

reversing the X-TERRA coil shouldn't affect the performance of the coil. But the "sweeping action" seems a bit awkward at first. JMHO HH Randy

some Aussies do this with the heavier 10.5" coils which can upset the Xterras normal ergonomics/ weight balance...they say it works

It should make no difference at all. The only possible consideration is the coils overall relationship to the rod. More of the coil has the rod in its direct field of detection, but the rod does not move in relation to the coil. You should be able to just GB and be good to go. Conceivably it could affect the GB numbers at a particular site or ID numbers slightly. Like Terra said though others do it and it seems to be just fine.

I tried it, but couldn't see where it helped balance my detector any better, so went back to the way it was supposed to be on. Didn't noticed any difference in performance either way.

Here is the link to a post I made back in 2008, with a picture of the 10.5 inch coil reversed on my X-70.

whenever I use my 10.5"DD I reverse it....it doesn't affect the performance of the detector or the coil, and for me it makes swinging for longer periods much more comfortable, only a small shift in weight, but it makes a difference (to me).
