Safari has no backlight. The strap white LED's are bight and great. They also come with Red LED's if you care to spook the neighbors and retain your nightvision.
I bought a real nice unit at Home Depot for under $20.00 and it came with two White LED's super bright and one Red LED with a switch to select your lighting color. Uses 2 AAA cells that last about 6 hours before the light fade a bit.
LED's are great and new batteries bring you right back to super bright.
