Does This Count as a Find??

Doing some cross country bushwacking yesterday and found a Leatherman Wave in the bushes. If it counts as a find, I guess it was an OK day. Otherwise, lots of horseshoes, shells & cartridges, and a iron buckle, finial??, chain, and harness bits. It's all good, got the heart rate up and had a nice hike. I'm finding lots of 1880s cartridges, the area definitely saw some action back in the day.

Looks like the oldest thing you have is possible the CDL rimfire. That guy, C.D. Leet, did some work for the Civil War Era loading for the Spencer Repeating Rifles. Yours is later, and you will have to mic. the case opening to get a caliber, possible the 56-50. The case marked CDL is probably copper instead of brass.

Thanks, guys! That pup is going in the MD kit. Nobody be messin' wit me!! Nice to find something I'll get some use out of (hopefully more than the previous owner, it doesn't look like they even got to sharpen a pencil with it... ). One of my favorite things about this hobby is that you just never know what you'll find in the most unlikely places.

Mudpuppy: yep, those early soldiers could have used a leatherman, and some building skills, too. In the book I'm reading about Fort Bayard it mentions that upon inspecting the fort about a year after it was established (1866), most of the structures were about to collapse, some already had, and most of the roofs leaked like sieves during the monsoon season (July/Aug).

Quarterhorse: You are a fountain of knowledge, as usual. I had that good feeling about the CDL. Have to see if I can find the micrometer, think I have one somewhere. I'll make labels with your notes and do a riker mount or similar display, so their history will be preserved. Thank You!!

The wave is a GREAT leatherman..i still have mine after 2 depoloyments to the middle east..it opened a bunch of MRE's for me.
