doing some testing with the Safari

just recently bought a safari and before i got it on one of my hunts i found a 1857 flying eagle cent well as we all know that most coins fall in the 30's and usually a high tone area, well my observation during my testing with the eagle cent this came up as a solid 21 and lower tone that had me baffled, it was the only coin that would come in that range?

The lower reading was just matching what the coin's tone was indicating. I'm guessing that the amount of corrosion on your coin when combined with the possibility that your coin contained a higher percentage of nickel than the usual 12% could have been the cause for your solid 21 reading.
