The 11DD is a great coil but we have not had any fresh sites lately.
My last 3 silver at three well hit spots came with LTD and 5in DD coil.

The Merc in the crotch of a tree,hit it 5 minutes after i went small.
Seated out in the open but heavy iron , i know we have walked over this one.
Today the Barber against a tree and a small tree with a Wheat and lots of iron.

Now i would like to be at a virgin site pulling 10 pieces of silver at a whack but
i can get a kick from squeezing one from a pounded site.

Nice finds Gman!!

I seem to hunt all trashy sites so I have the 5" DD on my LTD about 95% of the time. Even when I'm running in a fairly clean field I don't feel hampered by having the 5" on because I have pulled dimes from 6 to 8" with that little coil already that hit loud and clear in both directions!

Nice job on the finds~! You mention the 5" coil and I have seen it mentioned a number of times. I have the small, white coil from Fisher, but, it measures 6 1/2" x 3 1/4" and has a sticker on the top that says "F75"....is this the same coil you refer to? I have tried this coil in a trashy area in an attempt to 'snipe' something good and I did not like it at all. I can PP better with the 11" DD by a long shot! Maybe it is just me, I am a newbie. I also have the 10" coil, but, haven't tried it, yet.

I know the 11" is the DD. Is the 10" an eliptical concentric? How about the little white coil?

Edit: Okay, I found the 5" coil on the net....it is round, white and a DD type coil. Still looking for my 6.5" oval.......

Edit2: The 10" and 6.5" coils are both eliptical.......right? Now I understand how the 5" can be so good!!
 
The 5" is a DD. The 6 1/2" is not. The 6 1/2 elliptical to me isn't quite as good in heavy trash, but I like it for moderate trash sites for a little better coverage and works good for getting close to playground equipment, fences, and so on. HH jim tn
 
Yes Roland the 5in round and the 11in are both DD coils
I have the 6.5 but have not used it on the LTD yet.
In iron the DDs are hard to beat.
The Barber was at 7inches #s jumping from 30 - 60 but in 3H the hi tone
hit on evey swing.
 
Nice dime finds. Wonder why the barber read such low numbers and was so jumpy? I've not had the spread of jumpy numbers with my LTD that others have reported having. No, I don't get lock ons, but usually a fairly tight bounce of numbers. Anyway, great finds and my 5" coil also see's a bunch of action. HH jim tn
 
Hi Jim ,after pulling out the Barber i sweep-ed the hole again and got a #7 reading
I was running a disc of 6 .
There was some nasty iron down there but i did not excavate it.
Usually the ID is pretty tight in my mild ground.
 
gman, thanks, that will do it. I was just curious. I see numerous mentions of bouncy id's with the LTD and while my ground right here is pretty mild, up in Minnesota where I occasionally hunt I pretty much have 3 and some times four feo bars and still get a fairly tight id. Not quite as tight as here, though. Again, thanks and good luck. HH jim tn
 
Jim tn hit what the 6.75 is very good at, getting close to large metal like fences, re-enforced concrete (sidewalks and steps) and playground poles. That coil on the F75 LTD gets me even closer to those large iron overloads than I can get with a Compadre. I like the little elliptical a lot.

In my opinion, the 10 inch elliptical is the coil to use with this detector over wet sand on salt water beaches.

My best finds have been with the 4" sniper coil on my F2 has oppose to my regular coils on my F2 and my F5. It seems to hit better to me.
 
I think also what the small coils do for us besides allowing up to get up tighter to trash and iron is they more or less force us to slow down and search more methodical. I know I seem to search more carefully using a shorter swing, working tics more carefully and they are less prone to suffer as much emi problems, hence less chatter, as well. HH jim tn

The small coil is the way to go, for trashy areas and worked out areas.It is easier to pinpoint a good target with it.The 5" coil comes with the detector is great and you can get the 6.5" elliptical coil as an option.It comes with the lower shaft,and works really well in worked out areas.I'm using one on my f75 and have found several coins I missed because of locating good targets from trashy areas.I hope this helps.Visit my treasure finder tips blog at http://www.metaldetectorheavenblog@blogspot.com or my website at http://www.metaldetectorheaven.com.

My ground is mineralized red clay and in part of my test bed I have silver dimes buried at 6", 7" and 8". I have the coins marked with white golf tees pressed flush to the surface of the ground, under my lawn, but I haven't 'practiced' in my test garden since spring and the tees are now invisible. Well, I couldn't find the exact location of the deeper dimes to test a new F75 LTD setting by looking for the tees, and since my LTD already had the 5" mounted, I thought I'd give it a shot. It's never been real good locating the two deep ones and I thought I'd have to switch to the 11" DD but I thought, "what the heck". For some reason the EMI is worst at mid day, and today was no different; I ran at DISC=0, SENS=0 to get a near silent search and began hunting. Bang! There's the 6" dime, loud and clear. I know the 7" dime is roughly three feet due North (or was it two feet) and off I go. Bang! What??? It's never been that strong, but digging around I find the tee. Now to find the 8" dime. This one isn't in the same line as the 6" and 7" but it's a little East (or West?). Off I go. Ring! Again, here it is with a nice, two-way audio and a good VID that's bouncing from 75 to 90. There's the tee!

I've just begun running 4H at DISC=0 this year and I love knowing what's under my feet. I had been running DISCs between 6 and 21 for most of the year... maybe that was why the dimes were usually hidden, even at higher sensitivities. Further testing is needed to ascertain this.

I find the 5" to be my first choice for checking within 20 feet of an old house. The nails are usually everywhere from old roofing jobs thus standard coils are heavily masked.

I'm so excited by the performance at DISC=0 that I feel I just picked up a new detector!
 
Yep I hunted with sens= 4 also running disc.=4....4h once with severe emi area and found old silver in a well hunted area........The others may have been unable to hunt there.......I was in bp........hh......Dan
