Well, there isn't much to do here besides watching the rain coming down from the sky!....so I'm looking at photographs from the past and reminiscing on good times metal detecting!! Tomorrow, the weather report is telling me no rain so I'm planning for a 1 day beach trip or hitting a local park which is one of the older parks (about 80 yrs old) in the area.
I have some old (100 yr old) rental property in Illinois and after I purchased the property, one of the first things I did was to metal detect the property!! Among all the targets I dug was this gold ring which I detected at the bottom of the steps/stoop leading to the back yard. I had read that women had a habit of placing their rings/jewellery on the steps leading to the yards before they did their gardening and weeding so I was confident that I would get something from that spot even before I started detecting.
One other factor was that previous tenants had put an above ground pool in the back yard prior to me buying the property (it had been removed) so that raised the chances of getting a ring.!
I put on a small 6 inch EQ2 excellerator coil enabling me to get closer without picking up the nails in the wood deck close by and any rebar that might be in the concrete steps. and 'bang'!!, the gold ring was about 2 inches below the surface!
This tiny coil looks a little small and funky to be of any use but I love to use this small coil to get real close to wire fences, concrete boardwalks at the beach that have rebar in them or nails in the case of wooden boardwalks and tot-lot swings, slides, monkey bars etc; It has served me very well and cherry picked many coins and rings in times past!! G.L. & H.H. everyone!
By the way DON'T FORGET TO DETECT THE BOTTOM OF THE STEPS!!!
