Driveways and war nickels! :fisher:

Left the house at 5:15, which put me on the ole housing site a little before 6a. About an hour after Mud had already garnered up some fresh drops and a whopping bag of charcoal and lights. I did a three hour hunt mainly hitting some of the driveways and edges on the site, which, can only be dug on for a few days following a good soaking rain. They are gravel and like concrete when the ground is dry.

I did manage a few coins from the two driveways and sides I worked this morning and 2 of the coins were war nickels. 42 and 43p's. The 44p I got yesterday. Just off from one of the driveways I also got a 46d Rosie and a small foreign coin, a 1954 1 Ore, I believe its from Norway. Not sure what the medal with the shield on it represents. Got one the other day, too, but it is toast. Also got 4 wheat cents, the oldest being 1919.

Still had on the small 5" coil, but with the grass getting tall and thicker from the recent rains, I went to the B P mode and ran sen at 99 most of the time with 3h tones and 0 disc. Had a little bit of chatter from nearby power lines, but nothing horrible, Have a good weekend, all. HH jim tn

Stop that, I am not going to get that 5" coil!!! Wow Jim your are convincing me that I should try the 5" coil. You are doing well with that thing. Great find and some good detecting....Z

Jim I know those war nickels have got a different makeup than a regular nickel and I'm thinking maybe they' have some silver in them so my question is what disc do they show up at? On my f5 a regular nickel comes in at 30 so I'm thinking a war nickel would be a little higher. Always like your post, keep them coming.

War nickels are about 35 % silver if I recall correctly. Nickels are a 30 reading on my 75, too, and war nickels with moderate depth lock on 30-31 almost all the time, the same as regular nickels. Thanks, and HH jim tn

Nice work! Norwegian coins huh? Think maybe some Vikings traveled through? Maybe to visit the tomb of the great American King over at Graceland?:lmfao: Well, 3:55am..its time to make the donuts..be back in a few to check in on ya..

thats good for one hunt

I'll go along with the Graceland King visit on the 1 Ore coin. Sounds as good as anything. Those Navy guys did do a good deal of over seas duty and no doubt brought back some foreign coins, however. I have dug a small baggie of them and a few were silver. My favorite is the Aussie large cent with the kangaroo on the reverse.

Worked two more driveways and their edges early this morning, 5:45 to 8:45, with less then stellar results. 5 Memorials and 3 clad dimes and not a curio among the tab tales and other trash. A few robins were happy, though. They were hanging around sniffing out earth worms and night crawlers from the dirt I was moving. Very peaceful on the site. Great morning just to be out doing what one enjoys. HH jim tn

That Norwegian coin you found was just about worthless when it was new. It's 1 Øre, that's 1/100th of a Krone - since a Krone is worth about 14 ¢, your 1øre was worth .14 cents! About 7 of them to make one U.S. Penny!

Now Norway has gone the other way on coins. The smallest coin now is 1 krone - about 14¢ U.S.
