E TRAC or SE????...that is the question

I'm sure it has been asked many times before...but I'm lazy.

I'm thinking about getting back into the Minelab Explorer detectors...simply because they seem to find more silver. I've had the Explorer XS...the Explorer II and the SE. I am seriously looking into the E TRAC. Is it any better than the others I've had? I did real well with them in the past. But will the E TRAC give me any other advantages over the SE?

Thanks for any replies...I really appreciate it.

I've had both. The SE just wasn't for me. It seemed it was too tough a learning curve. There's still a learning curve with the E-Trac but for me it was/is easier. The master of either machine is going to kick some serious tail looking for the goodies. Get Andy Sabisch's book about the Explorer Series and the E-Trac. If you have questions after reading that book somebody on the forum will help out. Seriously I'd advise not getting either until after you got and read the book. Then you can really make an 'informed' decision...Jim

Having owned both I found the E-Trac to be more stable and faster. Both have great depth, but I am pulling deeper coins that the SE missed.

I asked that same question before I bought my SE Pro. I'm not a coin hunter, but a relic hunter so I got the SE Pro b/c I run it wide open in Iron Mask mode. But for coin hunting I would have to lean toward the Trac. The SE Pro's are considerably less expensive though and good used ones are easily available.

I think you are going to get the same answer that we got when the SE came out.... some will never change from the Ex II, same with the SE. The people i hunt with that have the Etrac arent doing any better.... YET. Perhaps with time and experience we will see an obvious advantage.... but hey i dont think the SE is kicking the XS' butt either. Its clearly a users advantage right now.... how good can you get with it? You know what these machine are capable of... now do you want to pay the big bucks and get the newest tech? You may get a few that bought the Etrac that say they dont like it.... but most wouldnt admit it. There are advantages to any of the Explorers... and disadvantages. If i didnt have an SE personally i would get the Etrac. Theres no downside to new tech. just to your pocketbook. Surprisingly there doesnt seem to be any SNAFU's with the Etrac. Hopefully they dont do what they did with the SE. Come out with an upgrade almost right after the machine came out that we had to buy.
