Eagle Decoration for CW or pre CW Hat???

Found this beauty today along with three Eagle buttons and many old bullets.

Any ideas about what it is? Have only done a field rinse on them and I think they will clean up nice.

Howdy Bigfootoakie--

Your button is a "Great Coat" button (General Service). They were made between September 5th 1820 and February 1839. .It's listed in Albert's button book as GI 71A. Excellent find!

Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!

I have heard the eagle piece called a "Jefferson Davis hat brass", apparently he authorized them before the war when he was Secretary of war (later changed to defense). Amazing finds, I think you have a good spot.
