Earbuds

Which current Minelab models have an 1/8-inch jack?

I believe the 3030 & etrac do. Not sure about the safari or other models. They should start putting both 1/4 & 1/8 jacks on all machines since ear phones are getting smaller and are trending toward the 1/8" jacks. Most of the younger folks grtting started in this hobby use ear buds and they all use the smaller jack as far as I've ever seen.

Got the Auvio 33-284 wireless earbuds in a couple of weeks ago. They were defective, but the seller sent me out another pair. There is no lag whatsoever with the phones and the sound is quite dynamic. Its really nice not being tied to a cord.

So work in Colorado and my job had"that place in Colorado" make all of us a set of custom ear plugs. As it turns out they use use this stuff

I ordered some of this from Amazon for other projects. After reading this thread I am thinking about using a set of ear buds and making my own custom fit dectector listening devices for use with my 705.

Not certain why you would want to do that. Ear buds by themselves are pretty well sealed off from outside sound.

The main advantage I can see would be that the tone from the machine would be the ONLY thing that you hear. I can see your point being not much else gets in your ear, unless you are in a noisy area or the wind is whipping like crazy.

I could see it possibly being more comfortable or secure. We go to quite a few motorcycle rallys that have people there that make custom plugs and earphones. I just won't pay the $170 they ask for.
I search a lot within 80 ft of the interstate, ear buds do a great job even in that environment. Plus, I would like to hear a little bit in case someone comes up behind me.

Yup, up here in Colorado the Mountain Lions might sneak up behind you while you are detecting. :O

I think multi-use is also a deal maker. A couple more weeks and it will be time to put away the metal detector and start up the snowmobile. I think using the custom ear buds with the walkie-talkies to chat with my wife could be handy.

With the custom molding silicone already in my posession, as is a couple sets of ear buds and of course the fond memory of the "highly skilled ear plug molding technicians" that made my custom earplugs, I will give it a try this weekend.

Let us know how it comes out! Multi-use is all good.

Great idea, I will have to try ear buds as the killer B's I have are very hot in the dog days of summer. Thanks for sharing. :super:
