Eating Batteries

lerafe

Member
Hello,
I am loving my new (to me) 705. I also use a White's MXT.

The MXT uses AA as the 705 uses 4 AA.
I have had to change batteries several times since I got it, a couple weeks a go. They seem to go fast. I can use the MXT for sometime before changing and I usually do not run them completely drained.

Any Ideas on way this is happening,
Thanks,
Lee

I can run up to around 16 hours hunting time maybe a little more or less on my 705 using rechargables, are you running it with the back light on all the time?

Headphones? If you're using the speaker, it sucks a lot of juice too.

What's the mah rating on your batteries?

This seems highly unusual! I can go over 20 hours on a set. Are you using fresh and high quality batteries? If so, send your unit back immediately. Minelab will take care of you!

Depending on the battries that you put in it, they will last around 16 - 30 hours, but this is dependant on the way that you use it, with or without headphone, with the backlight on or off and so on.

Lee,

Sounds strange to me. I'm on my 3rd X-Terra in the past 3 years ...I've got the 705 & 505 now and I average about 25 to 30 hours of hunt time per set of 4AA batteries (previously traded a 305 in on the 705). I use brand name batteries fresh from the package that I buy in bulk. I generally hunt with headphones and with the backlight off (705). If I will not be hunting for a few days, I pull the batteries as recommended by ML.

Start with quality, fresh batteries and keep a log of your actual hunting time. Then, if you find you are not getting 20 or 30 hours of actual hunt time, you will have some hard facts to share with ML. One of the great attributes of the X-Terra is that they don't eat batteries the way some detectors do.

Please post back your results and findings.

Thanks for the replies.
I am using Duracell, no backlight ( did do some night hunting a few days ago though), and Headphones.

I will try a fresh set and keep track of the time. When I do hunt, often it is for several (5+) hours at a time. It seemed to me that I was changing them eery third time I went out. It may not be as bad as I think. I will try to track there use.
Thanks

Extreme heat will affect battery life also. Try using your MXT more often for comparison.

Unless you're getting twice the life out of set in the MXT, you're stll ahead with the Xterra using half as many.

True, and Ks Coyote, I will have to test my batteries by following behind you next time we hunt, to pick up the leftover goodies :)
