I buld the microcontroller PI treasure hunter by Mark
Paulus pulse induction metal detector, but don't works, I have to substitute the 16c84 with 16f84.
My question is :
Should I make modifications in source code?
Ps. I notice diffrences between schematics and PCB: eg
search coil connected at +16v , VR1 at +16v or 9v
as in PCB
I don't have the original magasine article..
Please help...
best regards,
Arjoca Mihai

Hi Arjoca,
Yes, there was a change between the magazine article and the final product. You can get the article from Carl Moreland's site, link below. I don't know if this article has the modifications added or not?
As well as the mistake you mention with VR1, an extra resistor was added, and some of the electrolytic capacitor values were changed, but I believe Mark's code works OK. Sometimes Mark takes part in the Tech Forum on Carl's site.
I would check all your hardware first, before altering the code. I can't remember off hand what the specific changes are, but if you can't get any joy from Carl's pages (search Tech forum posts) then email me.
I built a Stuart PI as well. I didn't make the mods to run Mark's code though. I separated the analogue gates and connected them directly to the PIC ports, this left a spare one. I open this for 20 to 30 us before the main pulse, it then subtracts noise from the sample and hol cap, this also has the added advantage of making the detector into a motion detector. This is great when you stop to dig a target, as the detector doesn't keep screaming at you when you put it down and start digging.
Cheers
Kev.

Sorry Arjoca, I didn't see the link at the bottom of your post. You've likely exhausted all avenues in that direction. It will be about 24 hours before I can respond to an e-mail.
Cheers
Kev.

<img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> Hi Kev,
First thing I want to thanks for support,
When I build the detector, I notice the errors, I connected the coil to 9V,
I checked all supplies 5V for PIC, 16V and they are OK. I follow all
instruction and directions written in article see url: http://www.thunting.com/cgi-bin/geotech/pages/common/index.pl?page=metdet&file=/projects/stuart2/index.dat (the Geotech site of Carl)
I hear a tone in the headphones but I can

arjoca mihai,
I think you said you had problems compiling the asm file on another thread?
If so then you need to have the file p16c84.inc (or p16f84.inc and change the reference) in the same directory as Mpasm.exe if you want to compile it as is. These small files are available from Microchip or I can email them if you contact me.

Hi Arjoca,
did you fix your problems with Mark Stuarts PI-detector? I built this some years ago and hat to fix the schematics (pcb was ok) and the code (mistakes in EEPROM-area). But now it works excellent. If you need the corrected code and schematic send me an email...
regards
Roland

Dear Roland
Would you please send me schematic and code for 16F84 or EEPROM also?
I built the circuit but dont run.
Thank You
Gabor

Dear 6666

Thank you Your answear.
I bulit the PI detector based on the geotech page to the Marc Stuart description.
I can not buy PIC16C84. I bought PIC16f84A.
I need the PIC16f84A hex code because on the geotech page only PIC16C84 code can I found.
I found same circuit mistake as about Arjoca Mijai who writed first.
I need the original EPE magazin pages circuit diagram photos (1994 June)
I would like see the original description
If you can help me, please send me the files.
Thank You
Gabor
