Elite or Advantage???

I'm considering one or the other. Has anyone here used both?? I know the Advantage gets very good depth for its price range, but know little about the elite. Got a line on a good price for the Elite, but if the muskeys as deep or deeper, I'll probably go for that.......thanks in advance..........

You'll likely get more replies by posting on the Sovereign/Excalibur Forum. I don't have a Musky, but do have an Elite.
The Elite gets great depth, has tone ID, uses multi-frequencies, has regular and notch disc, plus automatic ground tracking--it's simple to use and get very good results with.
What those who have Advantages seem to like is the faster sweep speed, due to shorter recovery time between targets and their depth in recently disturbed soil, such as freshly plowed fields. Muskys do not have tone ID, are single frequency and must be manually ground balanced.
If you're a salt water beach hunter, forget the Musky, as, like other single frequency detectors, it won't handle the wet sand well. I don't recall anyone comparing the depth of the 2.
Hope this is of some help to you.

Hi
The Adavntage is very good value for money and does have auto groung balance not manual as Kathy stated.
I use one as my main detector in the uk and achieve very good results with it, but saying that, it is a lower end model than elite therefore it does not in some cases go as deep.
The recovery is fast and allows the user to sweep fast.
The multi frequency machines need to be swept sloooow to allow them to recover.
The Advantage would be easier to use as far as controls go but the Elite would be easier to understand with the tone id feature.
Both are very good machines and will only be as good as the user!!
Try them both if you can and buy the one YOU like the best.
Hope this helps

which would compensate on-the-go for variations in mineralization. The fixed ground balance simply sets the ground balance to a factory-set parameter and is not continually adjusting the level of compensation for the ground minerals, as the Elite's auto ground tracking does.

Sorry about that, misread your answer and you are correct!!
You did say that they must be manually ground balanced and that threw me
They run fine in fixed mode.
I have never manually balanced mine and I do just as well as the next person even finding really small silver coins!! HH

We both had flaws in our responses. I had stated that one must manually ground balance, when, in fact (as you mentioned), one can manually ground balance the Advantage, but it is not always necessary to do so.

I have an Explorer and an Musketeer Advantage. The Advantage is super fast resetting from trash to goodie so it is very good in pulling coins in iron nail infested areas. Heck even Andy Sabisch's son used the Advantage so that should tell you something.
I've had extremely good luck with my Advantage this year. I use my Explorer as my back up machine now
The Advantage, however, has what I believe to be a terrible disc. To dig nickels or jewelry you have to dig pull tabs. On the Explorer II much of the digging of pull tabs are done away with using the Conduct/Ferrous numbers. I think if anything I may get an Explorer II after seeing all my friend's rings he finds with it.
If I were you, I'd spring for an Explorer II. and get an Advantage.
No, I don't sell metal detecting equipment.
