EMI prob with Omega rears ugly head again

First, I LOVE my Omega. But several days ago I had the opportunity to hunt a CW campsite in Central Ky (THANKS RICK!)...the site is a large pasture with overhead high tension power lines around two sides of it. Even being more than a football field length away from them I could not get my sensitivity above 60 without it going nuts. Good news is that the Omega still gets great depth at that setting. This is only the 2nd time this has been an issue. i am looking to buy a ferrite choke to put around the cable...hope it can help. Also big rusty nails were banging in just like minie balls..number reading mid 70's to low 80's...dug a ton of them..no bullets though :(

I'm interested in the Ferrite choke idea.
If you have a go at that please post your results, both good and bad.
Cheers.

FYI on the Radio Shack ferrites.... get two as adding only one has little or no beneficial affect on EMI. Adding the second one will give some help.

HH Tom

Thanks Tom, Do you put them both next two each other where the cable connects to the detector or one near the detector and the other near the coil...or does it matter?

Put both in line at the control box connector
