End Sweep Signals?

Can anyone shed me some info into why when detecting on the fresh water beach why at the end of each sweep, my 2500 responded with a signal? I adjusted the sensitivity, but that didnt work, I tried the salt elimination and it made it worse slightly. Any reason anyone in to how I can eliminate this. I switched between the coins, and jewelery modes. All-Metal with tracking was very unstable?

from all the mineralized salts in the wet sand.
I tried my 1500 on one Texas beach and had to increase disc. and decrease sensitivity to get more stable operation. Tried salt elimination and changing frequency etc.
Best I could get in wet sand after all the tweaking was about 4" on a quarter on THIS beach... other beaches may be less mineralized.
My conclusion was that my GTI wasn't the best machine for wet sand. When I go back I'll try using a smaller coil and probably spend more time above the tide-line in the dry stuff.
When I go back in October I'll post results of using the smaller coils in wet sand. I have three smaller coils for two machines (GTA 1000, GTI 1500... 4.5" coils for each and the 5.5" hothead for the 1000).
The small coils are considerably more stable in most situations and might do a better job of dealing with the mineralization... let you know.

But still, your beach could have heavy mineralization. If you don't get the falsing when hunting land, I'd suspect the beach is causing the interference.

I have the gti-1500 and I also had the trouble in the wet sand until I got the power DD coil and I now have no problem at all. You still can not submerse it in the water as you will get several false signals but wet and sand right to the water line is no problem.

You're tipping the coil at the end of your sweep which detunes the coil and creates a false signal. Keep it level and the problem will cease.

Makes sense Rich, do you still get good depth in the wet sand? I'm wondering if a smaller DD coil might be more stable than the larger ones?
If I could hit coins/jewelry down to 6-8" I would be satisfied.

I really could not tell you about the depth as I did not use it enough in the wet sand. I have dug pennies and pull tabs from at least 8 inches, but like I said I have not used it enough. I usually take the sea hunter mark 2 but now that I have found the power DD works in the wet sand to the water line I will probably use that as long as I am not going in the water. There is one problem with the power DD and it is its descrimination, every bottle cap shows up as a quarter, and pennies seem to register about 3 or 4 notches below the actual penny. I will usually dig everything with this coil on the beach even though it has no imaging. I did notice that coins will usually give you a quick double bang in the belltone. I hope this helps. HH!! It is true that with the big DD, bottle caps may ID as quarters or even half dollars, but they don't sound the same. Start paying close attention to the sound and you'll find that coins belltone with a clearer ring whereas the bottle caps sound duller. I had to dig about a thousand bottle caps to learn, but now I can tell about 95% of the time. I still dig a lot of bottle caps anyway though, I can't help but worry about that other 5%. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=""> HB
