Eric, Decay time?

Hello Eric. For my education can you post the decay times for various typical items like: Gold rings, silver coins, pulltabs, rusty nails, bottlecaps, lead miniballs, etc. Thanks a lot.
Frank

Hi Frank,
I wish I could! Decay times vary a great deal, even for one class of item. Take rings - the decay time depends on the diameter, the cross section and the carat rating. Thin rings of 14 or 9 carat have fast decay, maybe shorter than 50uS, whereas thick rings of 22ct will go to 300uS or more. I have many plots of the signal decay from different objects, including ferrous, but there is a tremendous amount of overlap between all types of objects.
Eric.
