Eric Foster Coil

I have an Eric Foster Coil , (I Think) I f I were to build my own P.I. Circuit board will I be able to use that Coil ? It only has two wires coming out of the coil wire. One outer wrapping (the ground) and the other (the positive. See Photos . Thanks guys in advance.

Hello Water Hunter.

The coil doesn't look like any of the Eric Foster coils that I'm familiar with, but who knows?

Having a simple co-axial lead suggests it was intended for a simple BFO detector....But....it could also be used on a PI detector.

BFO being 'Beat Frequency Oscillator'.

You would need to have its inductance and dc resistance measured, to realise its original purpose.

I'm sure Eric will clarify matters when he next visits the forum...........TheMarshall

p.s. What basic pulse width and prf would you contemplate if you built your own electronics PI board, for that would dictate the search head parameters you require, and the suitability of the head you have shown us?

Hi WaterHunter,It looks like a Mono coil an a spec of 1.0ohm would put it into the PI class to use.
Its not one of mine thats for sure ,I use Bill Hays housings for my PulseMate range of PI coils.an they been sold around the world for the PulseMate Pi detectors.
They suit Minelabs an other for their SD/GP/Gpx series detectors also.
There general Ohms range for coil resistance is 0.5ohms to 1.2ohms for PI.
even in my Dual Field spider coils.
If you build your own PI as you mention in your first post, give it a try.
CoAx cable is typical of many PI.for Mono.

Eric,

I have one of your GOLDSCAN Metal Detectors,in very good condition. I also have a TDI PulseScan, both of which I find to be great detectors. With the help of Lamar Cannon,of Canton,MS,I built a sixty two inch round coil for the TDI--Which works great--with my own balancing handle. I would like to build a fourty two inch coil for the GOLDSCAN,but Lamar(who does the electronics part)needs the "values",in order to accomplish it. Could you possibly help me with
this project? I would appreciate it very much!

ThankYou
David
