ERIC...Goldquest SS low battery alarm (position)

Eric,
In the attached photo, the low battery alarm preset on my detector points to about the 4o'clock position. Does this equate to the low battery warning point of approximately 8.5v?
I may have inadvertently altered this (aka: fiddling around) and wasn't sure of the original position.
I could always check by running the batteries down and then check the voltage with a multimeter when the low battery alarm kicks in.
And don't worry, I certainly haven't gone anywhere near the other presets... <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">

Hi Tony,
I just gave my GQ a look and the position of that small pot looks pretty close. Mine appears to be turned slightly more to the right(clockwise)almost pointed exactly towards the end of that 3rd or center resistor where it attaches to the board.

I don't think it's a problem unless I had the alarm set too low or under the standard 8.5v...might get a little unstable if the voltage dropped too low and I didn't know about it.
I think the voltage value drops as the preset is turned clockwise.....not 100% sure though.

Hi Tony,
I compared the picture with a unit I have here, and it looks identical. However, it is a fairly critical setting, and is best done on a bench power supply. Connect to the battery terminals (check polarity carefully, and set supply to 8.5V. Adjust the preset until the audio <span style="background-color:#ffff00;">just starts </span>to beep.
Alternatively, wait till a battery pack is run down enough for it to beep, then check the battery volts on a testmeter, with the detector still running with a coil. Adjust preset up or down a bit as necessary.
Clockwise makes it start beeping at a higher voltage.

Is it normal for the beep interval to increase as the battery voltage drops?
The first low battery beep was probably every 3 seconds and within a very short space of time, the beeps were about one per second. I guess this is because my NiMH battery pack drops off power very quickly (unlike alkalines/Nicads ?).
