I am the kind of guy who likes to test a new machine firsthand so mine is in the mail from Metal Detector Depot
Discount Metal Detectors
Knoxville, Tennessee and I believe the last one they had.If you missed out What a deal and What a dealer!!!!!

People who wait for all the tests and arguments on new top of the line machines to run there course amuse me.Take a chance and be at the head of the herd or follow behind and possibly miss out on a great opportunity to find more old coins. And those that complain about a machine before ever having used or owned one amaze me.Kinda like badmouthing a Harley while riding a junk import scooter.

I try to be open minded enough to believe and trust Minelab knows about designing a new top of the line machine to work well.
By the way has anyone been forced to buy a machine against there will?
After I have used my E-trac for a fair trial then I believe I will have a right to judge it and the maker of said machine, not before.
Just had to get off my chest as I dislike negative statements and posts that are without grounds to back them up,Ray.

Amen. I'm a believer - I bought one too from Lynn at Detector Depot and got his amzing deal with the Lesche digger, Gray Ghost NDT headphones, Minelab carrying case, and 2-day shipping all at NO charge. There seems to be some concern about the Ferrous reading of 22, but I'm sure it'll become apparent soon why a number of items read in this range +/-3 clicks. I believe I now know why the axes were transposed as I studied the manual on the train home tonight - will post later. I think the fast recovery time and snappy resposiveness will be the real ticket!

Congrats on the purchase and great deal you got Ray!

And if you get flamed for it, screw it & go hunting.

It's really pretty simple, isn't it? 1. Get it. 2. Use it. 3. Offer an opinion on it.

You've already taken care of #1. Looking forward to your commencing with steps 2 & 3.

Hi BT,

Not sure what the grid size is on the Explorer - if my memory serves me the SmartScreen is 32 x 32 or something similar. On the ET it's 35 x 50, thus the need for the transposition of the Conductive and Ferrous (didn't this used to be called Inductive) axes. Conductivity is more important, thus it gets the resolution of 50 and Ferrous is relegated to 35 (still more resolution). So the new unit has quite a bit more resolution on the Conductive axis. The sounds will be the same for the same items - just foil and nails will be displayed in opposite corners of the screen. I've always run in Conductive anyway so I don't see that there will be a ig adjustment period. I suspect that the XS didn't display the Ferrous content linearly and that things have been corrected on the ET to be more realistic. I'm sure we'll learn more soon as to the design decisions - though I'm sure the design has been refined rather than having regressed. I can't wait to try it!

... if I buy a new E-TRAC now, I'm impetuous

... if I don't buy a new E-TRAC now, I'm timid.

... if I plan on buying a new E-TRAC on the 15th of the month, I'm timidly impetuous. However, if I wait until Armistice Day, I'm apprehensively hasty.

I say - whatever turns your crank, blows your dress up, floats your boat, butters your biscuits, humps your camel, tickles your pickles, creams your Twinkies, flies your flag, lights your candle, peels your banana, mows your lawn, paints your wagon, waxes your surfboard, shocks your monkey, or, generally speaking, any lawful action, deed, exploit or maneuver that produces within you an extended state of pleasure, delight and contentment - you should do!

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.
