Detecting today on pasture ,using coin mode-and a few changes to menu ,the Etrac ran smooth and was a pleasure to use ,the manual is very easy to follow ,and once one has mastered the use of the arrow toggles, it is simplicity itself, so far I have used the Etrac detector about 6 hours and can confirm very stable ,depth is excellent ,,pinpointing is spot on ,a much faster response , a big improvement all round from earlier minelab models ,and the balance and holding the detector for searching is an added bonus .Finds were not fantastic plenty of coins ,and quite a few were at the 8-10" range ,one small point if you reject screw caps, you can also lose

Thanks for the report John.
You mentioned that your one pound coins are in screw cap range. Can you tell them apart with much confidence via your tones, or do they pinpoint differently from screw caps? I only have an old XS, and although coins tend to give a smoother tone, they are not reliable enough to trust.
Thanks.
Mick Evans.

The Aussie coins have more of a copper content and a bit less nickel and NO ZINC BUT the Australian coins coins have aluminium in the alloy mix.

Australian $1 and $2 coins
92% copper
6% aluminium
2% nickel

Thanks for the info Dave. Wouldn't it be wonderful to knock out those screwcaps, but being a realist I know it wont happen, Too many variables, HH. Bob

Thanks for the replies John and David.
It's going to be an interesting conundrum to try and solve. I'm going to take a number of test screw caps with me the Sydney tomorrow. I'll get to check out the E-trac on Saturday morning. Some of these screw caps have the precise footprint of the $1 and $2 coins on the Explorer, so it will be interesting to see what happens.I'm not expecting the visual disc to be able to sort them altogether, but it will be interesting if other clues are available.
I, along with other Aussie readers, will be most interested in what you find out about these targets Dave.
Enjoy your new toy.
Mick Evans.
