Ever See Anything Like This???......

Erik in NJ

New member
Dug this today with capri_auto at the site that keeps giving....It was crushed, but I fear I damaged it with my digger  as it showed only an inch deep (it was deeper) sounded like a coin. I had no idea what it was until I came home and rinsed it off -- then I saw a face staring back at me! :yikes: It appears to have a date near the bottom of 1896 or something. I'm afraid to try and bend things back to where they were before the impact with my Lesche, but it's rather brittle. My guess is that's it's a tin doll's head and the four holes were used to attach it to a wooden body or a wooden handle. Any info and help on this would be appreciated!

Several more interesting finds today that I'll post soon.

Looks like a child's doll head to me. Back in the late 1800s, only the heads were tin or ceramic, and the bodies sewn on.

I've never seen something like that before either, Erik!

It does look to be really crushed. Neat find for sure!
