Ex2 Coil-end cable connection

New member
OK, so I got my Explorer II and was inspecting the seach coil. I noticed that the coil cable connection into the coil wasn't completely tight so I tightened it about (1/4 inch turn) by hand (no tools). Not much, but it turned. The washer between the cable plug and coil can still be turned (not tight). Is everything ok with the connection?

Ahh that there connector is really a strain relief and I don't thinks it is meant to be played with :yikes:

...and she recommended taking a toilet paper cardboard roll (no kidding), cut it down to 2-3 inches in height, slit it down from top to bottom (to adjust the diameter) and put it around the coil connection from the base of the coil and just over the top of the strain relief in height. It should then be adjusted in diameter to just outside the hex nut on the coil (tape it to keep the diameter correct). Then, take a good brand of clear silicone and completely fill up the toilet paper roll with it, let it dry completely, then remove the toilet paper roll for a neat looking and effective water seal ( you might need the aid of an Exacto knife or you can lightly coat the toilet paper roll with something to keep the silicone from sticking to it (vaseline, etc.).
