Exactly what causes overload

what causes my xl-pro to show a good target(dime,quarter)on the first sweep and after several repeated sweeps peg the meter.Am i missing deep coins or is this more than likely deep iron?Nothing in the manual mentions readings over 100vdi .thanks dbull

Had the same problem with mine. Dug several elbow deep holes in the same area location. Have to admit that I got excited everytime. Hot rock maybe ? Wish I knew

[size=medium]First off, let me just state that I consider the XL Pro to be one of the best detectors that has EVER come out of White's!

In no particular order, I feel that a modified IDX Pro and modified Classic III SL (for those who don't want TID) and an XL Pro comprise the BEST TRIO of models I've ever used from White's.

Now, to your experiences.

Although I am a new member,I have followed your posts for the past year or so.I also use a 5.3 coil (blackmax)which I tend to run hot(3 oclock)with discrimination between salt&nails,autotrac on.Ocasionally I will pinpoint a locked on dime target,dig the shown depth,check the hole with my bullseye,find no target, sweep again and peg the meter! Usually I just move on but on occasion I will probe with my trusty butcher knife and strike what appears to be cast iron,Mineralzation does not seem to be a problem here in Mid Tn.Coins(even Indian heads)come out of the ground in excellant shape even though rust is a posibility.Will backing off signal balance cure this problem ?Target depth here

When you say slight Pos. G/B are you setting it with the signal balance when you pull the trigger in Dis. and raise the coil to check the G/B. ?????

[size=large]... I set the Signal Balance as high as I can without annoying instability. That it, it is just barely into the stable setting where the meter needle doesn't twitch or rise up a little from the '0' on the VDI scale.

I set it there because that's the setting I use to search in any of the three operating modes.

I then go through a general Air/Ground "beep session" starting with the search coil anywhere from about 6" to perhaps 10"-12" above the ground, then lowering it to maybe

[size=large]... DBULL, you're fortunate to have "kind ground" to search in and decent condition coins that lay hidden.

Most coins are in the upper 3"-4", and honest to gosh deep coins tend to be in the 6"-to-8" range with an occasional coin at 9" or so. While I get excellent deep-coin TID out of the the 6000 Pro XL, or renamed XL Pro, I do it with the Signal Balance set as high as possible for the conditions w/o annoying static. I run it "at the edge," if you know what I mean.

Coin Depth, however, will NOT, I repeat [size=x-large]NOT[/size] be accurate if the Signal balance is set too high. I have found that, as a rule, most sites let me search in the GEB Normal or GEB Disc. mode with a Signal Balance setting of about 2:30 to 3:30 o-clock. To get an accurate Coin Depth reading, however, you need to learn the spot on the control to reduce the Signal Balance during the Pinpoint/Coin Depth step. Most often that will be about the 10-o-clock setting

I just did not think about it that way. The TR, the TR all metal mode that is G/B to the mineralization which I can get more depth out of it then the regular TR all metal, the Norm and the SAT being as all tied to all metal which they are of coarse. Just never thought of it that way. You are certainly right though like always. I can always depend on you for a great answer to any question I have ever had. Thank You Sir. The hardest thing I have had to learn on this machine is keeping the coil really flat when you are in the TR, TR mineralization, and the SAT mode. The Norm, is more forgiving then those modes. Monte;thanks for the info.I will try ground balancing using your sequence as it is somewhat different from the manual.I am familiar target depth variances as I once used a dd-shooter which doubled the depth reading(a 6" target would actually be 3")I am currently detecting the childhood home of Sir John Templeton(founder of the Templeton Fund)circia 1910 basically seeking historical artifacts to return to the family.This site has been detected by others previously,but so far i"ve recoverd a gold fountain pen,a carved civil war bullet and a large silver mens ring.This is a good site to experiment/try new settings as most shallow targets have been recoverd.Again thanks for the info.DBULL
