i RAN MY EXCAL. AS FOLLOWS: MAX VOL. SENS. JUST ABOVE AUTO, AND DISC. ...13+ GOT MORE HITS, GOLD AND SILVER THAN EVER WITH THE 10 INCH COIL. AS COMPARED TO wHEN i RAN ALL METAL, HIGH SENS, AND CHECKED BACK AND FORTH WITH DISC. AND PINPOINT, THE ONLY SIGNALS MISSED WERE DEEP BEACH FENCE. WIRE. IT SEEMS WITH THE LATER SETTING, I WAS NOT AS GOOD ON GOOD TARGETS PLUS, (FIRST SETTING I GOT ALOT OF FISHING LEAD SINKERS TOO) VS. A BUCKET LOAD OF IRON CRAP (2ND SETTING). yOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE? i DON'T THINK i MISSED MUCH? HUNTING NASTY NJ BEACHES FULL OF IRON. (btw)

I think you are going to miss a lot of gold that way. I also think it has been proven over
time that it is always better to dig everything ( except iron ) on the beach. IMO

The reason I used the 13 for disc. is I tested it on some gold at home. That was the point where it dissapeared . If I dug everything set at 1, my back would be hurting more that it is today! I tried the other setting (1 disc., sens. above auto, volume max.) and it seemed I got more wire, and good sounding iron blended items. what hits below 13 that is keeper ish?

on my excal nickles cut out at 11 so I would say your gonna miss a lot of rings at that setting, plus charms/chains/bracelets depending on their size/carat.
here is a couple of rings I found with my etrac that hit below a nickel.
also remember where you set your disc, that edge right there is gonna make detecting anything that hits right there real iffy especially at depth or near another target.
even at 0 disc you shouldnt be bothered much by iron, just pay attention to the sounds the detector is giving you and also I would cut that sens setting way down, no more than 1/3 or 1/2 if your into that much iron. remember raising the sens your amplifying all the targets including the iron.
