Excalibur II squeals every 30 seconds or so

Mossback

Went to beach with my Excalibur II it worked the way it should pin pointing, discrimination but every 30 seconds it would let out a loud squeal. Other than that every thing worked. Any thoughts about the cause?

Possibly the low battery alert your hearing, so is the battery fully charged$$ or the battery pack bad. Will it make the noise only when swinging the coil, they try it while you hold the coil in the air away from any metal. If by swing the coil is when the noise comes and go it could be a bad connection in the coil or cable. They are some of the tings I would check before getting too deep in it, try to isolate all you can by trying different things.

I hope you get some different ideas from others too.

I think Rick hit it. Time for new batteries (rechargeables). 👍

Thing about the low battery squeal is that it is not normally intermittent. Once the battery drops below a certain voltage, the detector squeals and it is a death squeal until the batteries are recharged and not something that lets you go back detecting without charging the batteries. I had a cable from the battery corrode and would intermittently cause the detector to make short squeals but most of the time operate normally. At home on the bench I found the intermittent issue and replaced the cable and connector (pins were corroded too).
