This is new and worked fine.(first time out)After turning it back on the tresh hum will go away when ever the coil is moved, after it stops the hum comes back.It was working fine now I cant get it to give any tones until the coil stops,I moved to a differant spot about five miles away.Same thing,Anything I can try.

I am not clear whether you are an experienced detectorist or not and I am assuming that the machine is working correctly. Either way Minelab detectors, and particularly Explorers, are very different to use than any other detectors.
You could try using the factory presets for a while just to get used to how the Explorer works. Alternatively use the auto button (left side centre) with a manual programme. There is some sensitivity loss in auto but the threshold is generally rock solid.
However you set up remember to keep the coil close to the ground and swing very slowly.
Once you feel happy with the performance in auto you can start to play with the various settings and if you mess up you only have to bring up the factory presets or stored programme again. After a few months you will be amazed at how good the Explorer and you will wonder why you ever had problems with it.
Good luck and don't forget to let us know how you get on.
Regards
Fred
ps If you are an experienced Explorer user seek further advice

this is my first Explorer,I have owned,DFX,MXT,Garrett 1250, Fiher 1266.I still have my first detector, about 30 years old and works also CZ3D

One of our most succesful hammered coin finders I know uses his Explorer in factory preset with just the following changes. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Sensitivity in mauual as high as he can get away with.
Threshhold just audible.
Iron mask at 0.
Before any of you open up with all guns blazing you really should see this guys success rate its unbelievable. <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">
Its a very easy way for a newcomer to get used to the Explorer. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

the explorer and Sovereign both null on disced out targets and rejected iron... so if anything disced out is under the coil it will be silent, and sometimes just hih mineralization will cause a null... next time it happens turn on iron mask and set it to -16 that accepts all and see if threshold returns... you dont need a threshold to hunt, just go slow and it will still react to accepted targets...

this means you only want coins or silver or gold. Would I use it? NO! But it all depends on what you're looking for and how you hunt.
