My buddy has an Se with an 8 inch sunray stealth coil...What are some of the better silver settings to run, in moderate to heavy mineralized soil...? I use it periodically while he uses his etrac...Thanks hh

Nick

Trashy site?

NON trashy site?

Park?

School?

Fairgrounds?

Open Field?

Farm house?

Heavy Iron?

Little Iron?

You'll probably have to provide some more info for everyone before they will jump in and offer you siuggestions or tips.

yeah it all depends where you hunt like Bryce said. i hunt Field sites and Farm houses with heavy iron. so i open my screen as much as possible without hearing iron and swing SLOW! i run a 28 manual sensitivity and threshold at 10.

If you have not used an explorer before.....Factory preset coin program...or at least iron mask 22 while hunting in the smartfind screen.

Everything else...factory preset coin program.

If you prefer to "hear it all"...then switch to ferrous sounds and open up the screen.

If you have some time on the explorers...let everyone know and I'm sure they'll offer you some different setups.

I can handle advanced setups its okay...I found one for: sens- 30 32, sonds on ferrous, limits at 10, vari-10,thres-8, gain -8, recov-fast off, deep on, noise 5,

Hey Nick,

If you're hunting in a trashy park environment (my specialty...LOL), I'd recommend switching to Conductive sounds, and using a little bit of iron mask, like Bryce recommended. At a typical trashy park, aluminum(screw caps, ring tabs, pulltabs, beaver-tails, foil, can slaw, etc) is your nemesis. In Ferrous, some aluminum will give a good tone, or a tone close to that of deep copper and silver. In conductive, all the aluminum, except for screw-caps will give a nice, lower tone, allowing you to cherry pick those deeper, higher tones amongst the sea of trash in those parks.

With the 8" coil, you can bump the sensitivity up a little bit more than on the standard coil....28-30 should be fine. I prefer DEEP off also. When DEEP is on, it slows the processing of the SE too much for my liking. I don't like the delayed responses on deep targets. Besides, you're using a high gain, so having DEEP on is useless in higher gain settings, IMHO.

Good luck!! Don't let Ron dig all the oldies out of those Sac. parks. :heh:
