having trouble pinpointing whether in coil mode or in pinpoint and would also like to have a list of the digital numbers for the different coins or objects.

Link to digital chart for Explorer II.
I also had a heck of time with Explorer XS and pinpointing. For myself, I bought a 8 inch coil and used that for a few months, went back to 10.5 and pinpointed with no problems. <img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> But now have WOT & Explorer II but I have no trouble with pinpointing, I think it is just a learned process.
