Explorer 2 battery guage problem

My battery guage is showing half way down the scale even with brand new alkaline's, same with the re- charge pack , does any one know a cure for this problem,

This is just a suggestion,
Use the eraser head and clean the contact points on both battery and detector...careful not to push too hard. My older pack never hits the top full line after charging but I read you as saying they are new and alkaline...that is odd.

Yes the problem was poor contacts inside the machine and on the batterys.Solved the problem now thanks....
