Explorer 2? How Good? Any info?:detecting:

I have a chance to pick up an Explorer 2 at a real deal. I was wondering what the comparisons to the SE are. Any info will be appreciated.

I have an Explorer II. The minelab site will give you technical differences. My advice, if you're getting a deal, buy it, put the pro-coil on it (don't tell Bryce), and never look back. The only benefit I see for the SE is VCO pinpoint with target ID in pinpoint mode. I have yet to feel like I need either enough to spend the extra money. The SE is faster and has more of a propensity to false on iron from what I'm told. I hunt regularly with a guy using an Explorer XS who kicks all our butts.

Most sites I hunted with the 1050, I had to run 22-24 sensitivity. With the pro-coil I can normally run 27 or above. I went back over the same places and dug more great stuff with an obvious depth increase. It's worth the money for the weight difference alone, but the performance is just outstanding.

The explorer 2 is a great machine...and for most of us handles iron better than the SE.

The SE does have a slightly faster processor and the ID'ing all metal pinpoint feature is just an awesome weapon when deciding whether or not to dig deep, iffy hits. It is the final decision maker for me...and an invaluable tool when trying to make that final "dig" or "don't dig" decision.

If it wasn't for that feature...the EX 2 would be used more than my SE...but I have trained myself to use it for 1/3 of the decision making process.

1) SOUND
2) Cursor "flutter" and movement
3) Cursor placement when pinpointing.

Now with all this being said...since the EX2 handles iron better for most of us...you don't need the ID pinpoint most of the time with the EX2 anyway:clapping:

If it was me...I'd jump all over an EX2 at a good price...but I would not put a different coil on it if it already has the 1050 coil on it.

Personally I would not spent the $150+ for a pro coil...and even not the SEF coil IF it already has the 1050 coil on it. The 1050 coil is a GREAT coil. Yes...you will probably find a few coins with the pro coil or SEF coil...that you missed with the 1050...but I am only saying IF you want to save $150+.

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure it doesn't have the slimline SE stock coil on it ...because many people bought EX2's to get the 1050 coil for there SE...then REsold the EX2 with the stock SE slimline coil on it. I see this often on auction sites

If you are getting a good deal...don't add more money to it unless you have to...because if you ever decide to go with an SE pro or an E-Trac...it will already have the pro coil on it anyway.

BUT...if you feel you want a different coil other than the stock coil...my personal recommendation would be the 10 x 12 SEF coil...even though I truly feel IF I ever use the pro coil...it does the best on the EX2.

Out of my 3 Minelabs...EX2...SE...and E-Trac....the EX2 is the only one I will even put the pro coil on.

The pro coil is a GREAT coil...and MANY people LOVE it. My personal opinion after some side by side testing and comparing is that I prefer the SEF coil though....and the comparison is posted in my field test post at the top of the page. These are results I personally had though...and yours might vary.

EITHER coil would be a good one...and if you want to spend the money...heck...go for EITHER one:thumbup:...

The EX2 much smoother running and stable than my SE...but I still like the "raw" power the SE has.

Many people...if not most...feel the EX2 is the BEST of the explorers....so YES.....BUY THAT EX2:thumbup:

I didn't mention the XS because your post was not relevant to the XS...but trust me...I know a few fellers' who can sniff out some deep goodies with that machine too. They are absolute deep coin killers with their XS's...and from what I've heard..the XS is a "NICKEL SLAYER"

Good info!! Sounds like i need to jump all over one for $250!! Since I already have an SE with the pro coil, 10x12 SEF, and 6x8 SEF. I guess i am set. I have a DFX that I am going to sell and pick up the E2. I do believe that these have the 1050 coil on them. These machines that dude has are quite used but they work like a charm. I and going to use the rest to try to get myself an underwater machine. :detecting:
