Explorer 2 question

Johnny

New member
I have a explorer. 2 with a x-5 coil. Went to a yard yesterday went over the yard in coin smart find and got 1 wheat and 1 penny, when put it in iron mask and went over the yard and got 1 quarter, 3 pennies, and 1 wheat . Do you thank when I found the coins in iron mask the coins may been on edge??? I did go over it well. Thanks

Sounds like the quarter and pennies were mask by trash that had been under the discrimination setting the first time you hunted. When you switched to Iron Mask the second time you then had less discrimination and allowed you to see the coins. If you are new to the Explorer, a setting of Iron Mask -12 is a good start and -16 will let you see everything under the coil.

Thanks , I opened the smart find program up more and put the iron mask on -12 , try it in a few days. The help that you guys give to people that haven't used the explorer. for a long time is much appreciated . I have hunted with Fishers cz for 13 yrs.

-10 should pick up most of the non-ferrous targets..Wouldn't jump into -16 as its noisy and definetly not for a begginer..With a little practice you should be able to go into -16 as it will give you more depth and allow you to hear good targets next to trash..Used a CZ since 92 and an Explorer is just a different animal....Personally don't rush with the learning period of an Explorer as you may get confused at best..About a month in quickstart and finding a good mentor is the way to go...

Hey Johnny, I've been using the Ex II for awhile now & I use the Iron Mask set at -14, which is 2 clicks above no disc at all. I find it better to hear all the sounds & I do the discriminating. You can see where the target comes in on the screen & you can hear if its a good target or not. So, why use any discrimination when you have a detector that can give you so many sounds & options. I also use Ferrous sounds for recovery. When you use discrimination & heavy Iron Mask the detector nulls out & takes a second to recover. This could cause you to miss a target in the same area as trash. Try it & see for yourself. You can always go back to your original settings.
