Explorer 2 shaft in an XS?

Will this work? I am thinking of buying an X1 probe on this shaft but I have an XS. Any comments appreciated.

I had done the same thing( bought a X-1 phrobe on a Explorer II shaft) two years ago. Turn the shaft so the slanted( the long point ) is facing down. I added a slice of electrial tape on the tapered end of the shaft. The shaft is still tight with no problem. SEE Picture

Mike,

Yes, did it on my XS before I traded up the the Explorer II. With the 45 degree cut, the shaft goes about an extra inch into the control housing. Makes the shaft "feel" better, less flex in this area. Also has the red rubber shaft clamp rather that the old black plastic. Grips the lower shaft better.
