Explorer and salt water beaches

New to the forum (lots of great info). Going to Fla from Ohio for a few weeks and want to take my Explorer II. Tried my XLT on salt water beaches before, had a tough time getting it to run stable. Found an older thread where the Explorer does a good job on the salt beaches, but do you have to run a special setup in the programming or are there any programming tweaks anyone can recommend for the beach?

Dan;
you will have to back the sensitivity down sometimes as low as 10 to get it to run stable. even at decreased sensitivity the explorer will detect targets as deep as you care to dig. wet sand a quarter will detect at 18-20 inches a crushed coke can as deep as 3 feet.
dig all pulltab signals since that is where gold rings will show.

i recommend plugging the top of the lower rod with rtv to keep the wave action from running up the shaft or when u pick it up to high to escape a big wave

if u plan of working the surfs edge - it is a great damp sand and shallow surf machine

if u work the surfs edge maybe armstrap like string around wrist hooked to the handle, just i case a wave grabs it............like robin said u may have to turn down the sensitivity.

I'm using the stock coil. Thanks for the info, looking forward to getting down there. The area is Indian Rocks Beach, just south of Clearwater. They just pumped in a LOT of sand from offshore to rebuild the beach. I am hoping instead of just covering everything good up, they pumped in some real nice finds.

I've hunted Clearwater as well as Indian Rocks Beach when I was down there this past Christmas break. The XS that I use worked wonders on the beach and up to about a foot of water with the stock coil. The 15" WOT was great until you got it wet. Then it went nuts.

If they pumped in sand, I bet all of the local hunters hit it hard and fast...

Hey, don't tell me that! I've got myself convinced it's virgin ground full of shipwreck gold and lost diamond rings.
