Explorer II, Deep targets & 8" excelerator coil

TONE JUNKY

New member
Hey Guys, I'm looking for more info on how to set the Explorer II for deeper targets. I was advised to go up on Sens to 25-28, (I did), also to hunt in Deep mode or Fast mode. (I did both) And, somebody said hunt in Iron mask & I did that also. I did find deeper targets. Nothing to write home about yet, but the info was good.

What about hunting in NORMAL mode with high Sens. (25-2:geek:? And how does the 8" EXcelerater coil work on deep targets in trashy areas?

Thanks for any input

It just depends on how much Iron and Trash is present at the site to even make a person somewhat know for sure how it effects the depth of a Coil. I think the only person to answer that would be you or maybe a hunting partner. Normal Mode wouldn't be a good option to choose if you are trying to max out your depth capabilities with the 8" Excelerator Coil. Have you tried using Manual Sensitivity? You can switch to Manual by pressing between the Sensitivity Up and Down Buttons. You will know when you are in Manual when you don't see the line circling around the number. You will have to try this and adjust the Sensitivity until you don't get any Electrical Interference. You will know when you have it set good enough to detect with when the detector isn't unstable and it is running smooth. And do you have your Gain at 10. This could help but if you are in a really Trashy Site, then you should back down to maybe 8 or 9. And make sure you Noise Cancel before you start detecting. This will make the detector run as smooth as possible. You will have to experiment with Deep On only and Fast On only in a Trashy Site to see if you get a better signal also. It could improve the signal and response of the target using Fast On only. This is where you will have to decide what runs best in your ground conditions. Also, make sure you are using a Slow Sweep Speed. This will help sound off the deep ones you are after. Also, run in Iron Mask as low as you can. This will help the detector respond faster with the Nulling unless of course you run wide open All Metal -16 and are in Ferrous Tones. I think I covered most of it. Good Luck to you and HH.

I have a 5" Excellerator coil and it works great in real trashy areas. You will be surprised at how deep it will detect an object also. An 8" coil is a good all around coil. I don't have the 8" Excellerator, but I'm sure its a good coil.

Glad to hear that you liked what I posted and Good Luck and HH to you. :detecting:
