Explorer II or XS

All though the XS is a good detector... the Explorer II has some upgrades like Ferr and Cond. Also it has a MUCH better standard coil... one that a few years ago everyone wanted and it drove the price up on them until the Pro coil was introduced. I believe the II is made a little sturdier. ML has said they will only do repairs on the XS as long as parts are available... who knows how long that is. BUT if you find a cheaper XS.... its still a killer machine. Ive hunted with people who can kick butt with it and have bought a second or third unit.

I've never owned the Exp ll but have 2 XS. I bought the 1st one new on Ebay 11 years ago and lucky enough to have found a new in the box XS last year from a dealer in Florida who closed shop. It came with the extra 8" coil for $535.00 shipped to my door. I hated the thought of my original XS crapping out and happy to have the back up.

I've hunt with both and Dewcon is not correct on a couple of points, they both use the same stock coil, perhaps he is thinking of the slimline on the SE.Also the XS has Conduct and Ferrous modes but if you hunt in digital rather than smartscreen only the conduct numbers are shown. As far as performance,I think they are pretty much the same. The main issue is the repair issue and that is a biggie.Good luck.

Thanks Tom.... miss information is never a good thing when you are thinking of buying a machine.. I totally thought it only used the conduct numbers..... didnt even think about the smartscreen.

Both of those machines have killer resale values too just like most ML machines. A wise investment.
