Explorer II readings

Has anyone laid any coins on the ground to see what they read?I have a test garden.I have various coins buried at different depths.A silver half dollar reads 31.03 [ 31 cond 03 fer ].A silver dollar reads 25.00 [ 25 cond 00 fer ].This seems like it is bassackwards to me.I dig most targets anyway, so it's not that big a deal.I was just wondering if anyone has tried this. Please let me know.Thank you.

When I first started using my EX II I did toss coins down on clean ground to see where they hit. I even kept a log in my pouch for reference in the field. But after about 2 long months of going back to the list every time I got a target I learned to use my ears instead of my eyes. Nothing is 100% but learning the sounds instead of the numbers WILL yield a better output. P.S. A freshly buried deep coin may read different than a old deep coin and not too many times will you bury one on edge ( a whole new ball game there)

I did the same thing and I couldn't even find half the stuff. I was told because of the 27 frequences, the Explorer has a hard time detecting a coin that hasnt been in the ground for a long time.

I find that the silver quarter will read 0-30 most of the time while a silver half will be 0-28 and the silver dollar will read 0-27. The highest reading coin is the silver quarter, then the half reads lower conductivity, then the silver dollar. It seems like when the crosshairs or numbers get so high they start dropping down the side of the screen. The 0-31 have always been pieces of a tin can while the whole can will read 0-19 or so my copper pennies and clad dimes will read 3 or 4 ferrous while the conductvity is 28 and a silver dime is 1 or 2 ferrous and 28 conductivity. My IH and zinc pennies will read 7-25 with a few at 7-24.
