Explorer in general!! I have heard people say a deep coin sounds different.

I am just curious to know just how it would sound with the stock 10" coil? Is there some way to describe this sound? I just wonder when I had my previous two Explores if I may have heard them and just didn't know!!!!?? Any help would be great in this matter :wiggle:

Hi, I have heard someone describe the sound as someone blowing a whistle under water - a very muted sound. It may be a little broken and not always repeatable in both directions on every swing. Once you hear it and dig a target at 10 inches or so, you'll never forget the sound esp. if it's a silver coin. Very deep old nickel like a shield nickel can give a fairly broken response if they are deep. Hope this helps.

a deep silver coin will come in faint when gain is at 6.

a really deep silver coin coin will come in as a faint and intermittent sound. I can only describe it as a tinkle.

accompanying this tink tink tink would be a jumping digital readout.

even with many hours on the EX2, pinpointing deepies are a challenge.

So wouldnt it be to our advantage to boost the gain to 7 or 8 to get the deep coin that barely sounded off to amplify? I ask this ? because i usually always run mine at gain 8.

thanks for your info!

I run mine at 7, but I use auto-1 and the deep ones sound like a soft Fluty sounds. I call these the round sounds the deep targets make this with the Mine Lab Wiggle.

You describe it as fluty. Is the pitch same but just soft or are we talking about multiple pitches together? I have heard sounds with more than one tone all at once and was wondering if that was the fluty sound but I think not. Please advise as I too want to know how to identify that sound.

Yes, the sound does change. Up and down like on a musical scale. The key I would say is, its in a small area sound. If it sounds long drawn out more than a foot, than its not a coin, unless it's on the surface or a really shallow one. Using this method of hunting you will dig some deep nails, no denying that. Most of the nail signals wont hit both ways. Hence when you turn 90 degrees it will disappear. Be careful though, a coin on edge will disappear too. Oh yeah make sure you have fast on and deep on as well. OK I know I'll catch some slack from that, but I have always hunted with both on. This makes the response time come in a bit faster and lets you get in between trash better. Hope this helps
