:I've recently bought a s/h se pro for 700 quid. I thought I was purchasing top rated equepment, but have noticed
a lot of negative comments appearing on a local tecting forum. What is the opinion of owners your side of the pond?
I hope I have not dropped an expensive bullock. Honest opinions please.

Cheers from Bluenose :clapping::cry:

Most of us pretty much love ours--but this is the Explorer Forum, after all.

Wouldn't know why your local folks are ragging on them but many folks tend to go "our team is better than your team."

Blueray,

I am an Explorer user with ten years experience.....for good reason. After many other machines I started out with the XS and finally have an SE Pro. These are my ninth and tenth detectors AND I live only 35 miles from Whites in Sweethome, OR. After I went with Minelab, I never looked back. Absolutely the best overall machines I have ever used. There is a learning curve to deal with BUT with new information it is now neglegible.

Get a copy of Andy Sabisch's new book, 'The Minelab Explorer & E-trac Handbook'. Go to pages 85 &86. They will show you how to get the 'Explorer Emulator-Ultimate Learning Tool' on your computer. This will drop your learning curve to near zero. It is hard to believe you do not already know about this. It is on a web-site from the British Isles. Tell Gary that BudP sent you. You will also find the best detectorists in the world there giving help.

Don't think of getting rid of that SE. It is as good as it gets.

Ill give my take on my EXII don't nobody give me grief as I like solid comparison talk when it comes to my spending bucks.
- heavy detector ... can be compensated for with smaller coil or swingy thingy. heavy compared to most detectors that is.
- some folks don't like the learning curve as its a noisy machine with lots of sounds and lots of functions...I usually make fun of people who say that, reading a manual is not that hard but if you don't like to learn about how functions work than its probably not the machine you want or any other top of the line detector. why pay for stuff you don't want to use?
- You can easily hunt with it without adjusting much and turn on and go but If you want great performance the adjustments give you lots of range.
- An excellent deep silver seeker. also amongst iron and trash. but be careful with shallow targets other detectors do bettor for the top 1-3 inches.(or turn down sensitivity and cover area first like that)
- If you use a ratchet pinpointing on your older detector you will hate the pinpoint of the EXII you will need to learn how to lower the tip of the coil and cross, dig big holes or get in-line probe.
- works fantastic in my black sand beaches and gets solid hits on gold rings at excellent depth but not the really thin gold rings.
- in trash you can discriminate in tons of ways and cherry pick targets or you can open up and dig the snot out of your site till it looks like a bombing range.
- If you like simplicity I would say get a lighter less adjustable turn on and go machine. But you will not find half as much stuff.
- if you are serious this and other machines like it bring it. you can adjust discrimination to no end and try different functions depending on your sites to try to get the best from it.
- it does not do well with gold chains. charms yes. gold nuggets small no. I have found tiney objests down 8 inches so nobody can diss on its sensitivity to me.
- the sounds it gives are the key for me. great sound indications are more important than the VDI for me and you can read lots of post about that. Interpetaion can take lots of concentration.
This is some basic comparison on the machine...I think its a great machine for some of the hunting I do but I do not like that it wont pinpoint better, you would be shocked if I showed you how deep i have found great stuff but if you use it you will find out yourself. Ive worn out the book from Andy Sabish I got for it cause i like to try different adjustments youll do well to get that book. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks to you all out there for taking time to cheer up a limey.Special thanks to bud for hisown advice.
Like to buy u all a :beers:
Best of luck to you all.

I will promise you that you will never want to look at another brand again.

1) Learn how to use your SE:nerd:.

2) Go out with one of the people from that local detecting forum:twodetecting:

3) You will dig deeper and better targets that their machines don't even give a beep on:surprised:.

4) Enjoy laughing at them:cheers:.

No you didn't waste money it's a great machine.

You got the pro which is good as it comes with the pro coil which is far more stable and has better separation than the slimline. Also I believe some early slimlines had issues, though Minelab hasn't acknowledged this, but I read stories that there were bad ones that were just unstable, and I personally HAD one that I couldn't get running stable even at Sensitivity of 10, while every other coil I have (which is quite a few) can run way hotter.

So, no it's not a waste at all just take the time to learn it.

If you are going to work in a real trashy area consider getting the 8" SunRay coil. I am not a total newbie, but the trash where I hunt is so miserable, I can't separate target from non-target with the 11" coil. I've even been thinking about the 6X8 SEF. Just haven't heard it is any better in the separation department. Depth is important but it isn't everything. You can have nice older targets covered and surrounded by trash only a few inches deep and you somehow have to know what the sound is of the good target amongst the bad ones and then be able to dig where the target is.

I'm curious, where did you find a cluster of 'negative' comments about the SE Pro? And.....for trash separation, look at the posts on the 6X8 SEF. You do not often find a product with ALL rave reviews. I am ordering one today.
